A wave of labor organization is moving across the country, and higher education is bracing for impact. From large universities to small colleges, undergraduate to graduate schools, public and private, students are feeling the power of unionization.
Join us for a discussion of the unionization of Grinnell College, who, in 2016 became one of the first colleges to have an undergraduate student union. Learn about the transition from a Dining Services only union to the first Wall to Wall undergraduate union in the country. Hear about the challenges, the process that was followed, the bargaining of an initial contract, and finally the ratification of an agreement. And bring your questions, we'll try to provide answers!

Mark Watts is the Director of Payroll and Student Employment at Grinnell College. He has been involved in Student Employment for the past 10 years, and in managing a student union since 2016. He’s the proud Bako (his Grandpa name) of two young granddaughters, proud Dad of 3 great kids, and proud husband of Lisa for over 32 years. He has served at various levels of Regional and National Student Employment organizations, and enjoys many friendships built across the country from attending annual conferences.
