At the University of Denver, we've been chasing the goal of student employment as professional development since 2020. There is a lot we can do centrally, but we know that supervisors often make the biggest difference in student employees' experience. Our answer to student-employee supervisor preparation and empowerment is the Supervisor Learning Cohort, where supervisors train and build community to holistically support their students' growth. We'll share the development and evolution of the program, plus lessons learned for supervisor training on your own campus.

Elise
Goss-Alexander
Director, Student Employment of University of Denver
Elise Goss-Alexander, Director of Student Employment, supports student employees and their supervisors at the University of Denver in creating meaningful employment opportunities to prepare students for post-graduation career outcomes. In her role, Elise builds partnerships across campus and provides training to student employees on professional development and diversity, equity, and inclusion topics.
Before joining DU in October 2020, Elise worked as a graduate career advisor with American University’s School of International Service, where she supported service-oriented students in exploring and pursuing impactful, sustainable careers. In this position, she served on the Technology and Diversity & Inclusion committees of the Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers (EACE). Previously, she worked in human rights and foreign policy. Elise holds a BA in international studies and religious studies from American University and an MTS in religion, ethics, and politics from Harvard Divinity School.
Brittany
Menn
HR Partner, Student Employment at University of Denver
Brittany Menn, HR Partner for Student Employment, supports the human resources components of Student Employment. Brittany is a graduate from the University of Iowa, where she obtained a Bachelor of Liberal Studies with an emphasis on Organizational Studies. She got her start in HR in 2019 and held a variety of different HR roles before joining DU in July 2023. She specializes in policy interpretation and application, guidance on workplace issues, and consultation for both supervisors and employees regarding job performance. She also recently obtained her SHRM-CP certification from the Society for Human Resources Management.
