The Oxford College Library employs up to 50 student employees during a typical semester. To manage this workforce, the library selects and trains returning student employees as Library Leaders. Library Leaders take on a major role in the library, supervising their fellow students and overseeing library operations during late nights without staff presence. As campus leaders, they receive a higher salary than regular employees, which is in line with other leadership positions.
Library Leaders receive comprehensive, multi-dimensional training that begins in the summer before their second year of college. This training is designed to cultivate the students as model employees that provide the best customer service possible. During their time in the program, Library Leaders learn emergency preparedness, library operations, leadership skills, and more. The program provides a solid foundation and real experience for them to build on during the rest of their time as students and in the world beyond.
